Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, in partnership with Orion Innovation, has launched an Applied Generative AI (GenAI) elective program designed to provide students with hands-on experience in emerging artificial intelligence technologies and enterprise applications.

The program is currently being offered at Amrita campuses in Amritapuri, Coimbatore, and Bengaluru, with more than 70 sixth-semester students enrolled. The initiative seeks to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry requirements by exposing students to real-world AI tools, platforms, and problem-solving techniques.

The curriculum covers a wide range of cutting-edge topics, including Large Language Models (LLMs), prompt engineering, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), agentic AI frameworks, Responsible AI, LLM security, fine-tuning, and autonomous agents. Students also gain practical exposure to leading AI technologies and platforms such as Microsoft Azure AI Foundry, AWS Bedrock, Google Gemini, Microsoft Copilot Studio, Hugging Face, LangChain, Ollama, and vector databases.

Speaking about the initiative, Br. Vishwanathamritha Chaitanya, Director of Corporate and Industry Relations (CIR) at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, said that the future of education lies in combining academic excellence with industry relevance.

“This collaboration provides students with direct exposure to rapidly evolving AI technologies, enterprise applications, and industry workflows, helping them become future-ready professionals in the digital economy,” he said.

As part of the partnership, high-performing students may also be considered for internship opportunities at Orion Innovation, creating a pathway from classroom learning to professional industry experience.

The collaboration has been formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which also includes faculty development programs, knowledge-sharing initiatives, and ongoing engagement between industry experts and academic teams. The objective is to ensure that educational programs remain aligned with the fast-changing technological landscape and evolving industry needs.

The initiative marks a significant step toward strengthening industry-academia collaboration and preparing students for careers in the rapidly growing field of artificial intelligence.
