Coimbatore; In Coimbatore zone, the licenses of 27 shops that sold abortion pills in violation of regulations have been temporarily cancelled and the licenses of 7 shops have been permanently cancelled. Although abortion is legally permitted, the Drug Control Directorate has imposed strict regulations on the sale of abortion pills. Accordingly, most of the drugs are sold directly to those receiving treatment there in pharmacies affiliated with hospitals.

It is necessary to maintain various records when selling this drug in private pharmacies.

Furthermore, drug control inspectors are conducting continuous inspections. Immediate action is being taken if there are violations in the sale of abortion pills.

Coimbatore Zone Assistant Director of Drug Control Marimuthu said:

Abortion drugs are generally not easily available in shops; they are available in pharmacies affiliated with hospitals with many restrictions. Instructions and warnings have been issued to drug sellers in this regard. We are also conducting surveillance.

In addition, we will obtain details of the distribution of this drug from manufacturers, wholesalers and distributors and go there directly to investigate.

From Jan. 1 to Nov. 30 this year, we have temporarily revoked the licenses of 27 pharmacies and permanently revoked the licenses of 7 pharmacies that violated the rules in the sale of abortion pills. Action has been ordered against 13 shops.
