Coimbatore pumpset industry targets $5 billion turnover in five years says new SIEMA president

The pumpset industry in Coimbatore is targeting a collective turnover of $5 billion (around Rs.50,000 crore) over the next five years, said Southern India Engineering Manufacturers’ Association (SIEMA) president Ma. Sendilkumar.
Speaking after the association’s annual meeting held in Coimbatore on August 25, Sendilkumar, who has been elected SIEMA president for 2026-28, said the global pump industry was currently estimated to be worth around $95 billion.
Coimbatore is one of India’s major pump manufacturing hubs and supplies pumpsets to several international brands. The region’s micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) have also established themselves as reliable suppliers to leading global companies, he said.
Sendilkumar said SIEMA would focus on import substitution, noting that India currently imports pumps worth nearly $450 million annually. In association with its members, SiTarc and COINDIA, SIEMA plans to develop high-quality indigenous alternatives to imported products.
The association will also strengthen MSMEs through cluster-based programmes focusing on technological upgradation, improved systems, modern manufacturing practices and greater awareness of international markets.
Seeking greater government support, Sendilkumar urged the Centre to recognise pumps as a thrust sector, given their importance to agriculture and other critical industries.
He called for subsidies, interest subvention and other investment support measures for the industry. SIEMA also urged the government to reduce the GST on pumps, which has increased from 12 per cent to 18 per cent, and support MSMEs in adopting Industry 4.0 technologies such as robotics, automation and advanced manufacturing systems. The newly elected SIEMA office-bearers for 2026-28 include Ma. Sendilkumar of Superteck Industries as President, with Arun Ranganathan of Suguna Industries, K. Mohan Senthilkumar of Aqua Flow and R. Karthikeyan of OMI Pumps as vice-presidents.
The new leadership is expected to focus on strengthening Coimbatore’s position as a global pumpset manufacturing hub while increasing indigenous production and export opportunities.
