Two teachers from Coimbatore, Erode selected for National Award

Two teachers from polytechnic colleges in Coimbatore and Erode have been selected for the National Award to Teachers for Higher Education Institutions, announced by the Union Ministry of Education.
The awards are given annually to selected teachers on the occasion of Teachers’ Day on September 5. While the award was traditionally presented to school teachers by the President of India, faculty members from higher education institutions have also been recognised with the award in recent years.
This year, 21 professors and teachers from higher education institutions across the country have been selected for the national honour.
From Tamil Nadu, S. Sasikala, Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at PSG Polytechnic College, Coimbatore, and R. Kannan, Head-in-Charge of the Department of Physics at Sakthi Polytechnic College, Erode, have been selected for the award.
Sasikala has 27 years of teaching experience at PSG Polytechnic College. She has also undergone three years of industrial training and has contributed 11 research papers.
PSG Polytechnic College has previously received recognition at the national level as well. S. Brinda, Head of the Computer and Networking Department at the institution, received the National Award to Teachers in 2024.
R. Kannan, who serves as Head-in-Charge of the Physics Department at Sakthi Polytechnic College in Sakthi Nagar, Appakoodal, Erode district, has completed his degrees in Physics from Bharathiar University, Bharathidasan University and the University of Madras. He has published more than 50 research papers.
The selection of the two faculty members from Tamil Nadu has brought recognition to their institutions and highlights the contribution of polytechnic teachers to higher education, teaching and research.
