Vezham Biological Park to learn about elephants

Mettupalayam: A special park called Vezham Biological Park is being set up by the Mettupalayam Forest Department so that the public can learn about the characteristics of elephants and their importance.

There is a forest department timber warehouse on the Mettupalayam-Kotagiri road. The work of setting up the Vezham Biological Park in this complex began in 2020-21. More than half of the work was completed, but the park work was stopped due to lack of funds.
Now, after the Tamil Nadu government allocated Rs. 14 lakhs again, the work is going on in full swing on behalf of the Mettupalayam Forest Department administration.
In this regard, the Mettupalayam Forest Department said:- Inside this park, murals of various species of elephants have been painted. Details including their names, habitats, and living periods have been fully compiled and are being displayed.
The paintings also explain the uses of elephants in ancient times, their role in literature and our culture.
An awareness centre and an open-air exhibition park have been set up around the centre to educate the public about elephants.
Once the park is complete, it will be opened to the public soon. Work for this is in full swing.
