A toll booth has been set up at Lakshmipuram on the national highway between Sempatti and Wattalakundu on the way from Dindigul to Theni. Although it is a national highway, it is a two-lane road from Dindigul to Wattalakundu. Even after many years of its construction, this toll booth has not been put into use due to public opposition. The public and farmers have been opposing the toll booth for many years before the four-lane road work is fully completed. In this situation, the toll booth administration made arrangements to open the toll booth on Wednesday morning. It was announced that the toll booth would be operational from March 12. Farmers and the public in the area strongly opposed this. The toll booth began operating at 8 am. Within minutes of the toll collection, villagers gathered there and started smashing the windows, computers and billing machines of the toll booth. Seeing this, the toll booth employees who were collecting the toll ran away screaming. All the items in the toll booth were damaged. Protesting against the toll booth, a large number of farmers and women members of the public blockaded the toll booth and staged a protest. Pattiveeranpatti Inspector Rajasekaran and Nilakottai Taluksiyar Vijayalakshmi, who came to know about it, appealed to the public to maintain peace. Following this, the public dispersed. The incident of the toll booth being smashed near Wattalakundu caused a stir in the area. Due to this, traffic on the Dindigul-Theni road was affected for some time.
