Coimbatore; Councilors are unhappy that the Coimbatore Corporation did not hold a council meeting this month. Zonal meetings, standing committee meetings and council meetings are usually held in the Coimbatore Corporation every month. The resolutions passed in the Zonal meetings and standing committee meetings are sent for council approval and only then come into effect. In unavoidable cases, it is customary to get the mayor’s prior permission, complete the work and pass a retrospective resolution.

In the council meeting, the regional leaders, standing committee leaders, DMK, AIADMK, Congress, EC, MA, MD, council committee leaders and 10 councilors, two per zone, will be given the opportunity to speak. In the meeting held last October, the regional leaders opposed the councilors speaking on ward issues in the council.
The councilors speak in the council only to bring the mayor and commissioner to the attention. Therefore, it was suggested that if the mayor and commissioner participate in the zonal meetings, there will be no need to speak on ward issues in the council.

Since the resolution materials are not yet ready, there is no possibility of holding the meeting this month; it is being considered to hold it by Dec. 10. Due to this, the dissatisfied councilors are insisting that the council meeting should be held regularly every month to bring ward issues to the direct attention of the officials, even if there are no resolution materials.

We want a solution!

Some councilors said, “We should make it a habit to hold council meetings every month. Only lower-level officials, including the zonal president and assistant commissioners, will be present at the zonal meetings. Issues that they cannot resolve can only be discussed in the council. Since a solution can only be found if it is brought to the attention of the commissioner or the department heads, we should not hesitate to hold a council meeting.”
