Coimbatore: Police chased and caught a man who was carrying a petrol bomb to throw at a BJP leader in Coimbatore.
The Selvapuram police in Coimbatore were conducting a vehicle check in the area early yesterday morning. When they checked a two-wheeler that was passing by, they found two petrol bombs in it. The police took the man to the Selvapuram station.

During the investigation, it was revealed that he was Nassar, 34, of the Sivalaya Theater area in Selvapuram, and that he had brought a petrol bomb to throw at the house of Manikandan, the BJP’s Spirituality and Temple Development Unit South Zone in-charge.

The police said:
Manikandan is in the real estate business. Nassar’s brother had gone to work in his office in Selvapuram area for fabrication a few months ago. At that time, Nassar had come there. Nassar, who had met Manikandan a few days ago, had asked for a loan of Rs 5,000.

He refused to pay. Enraged, Nassar bought petrol in an empty bottle, made petrol bombs in two liquor bottles and took them to Manikandan’s house to throw at them.

Nassar had earlier thrown petrol bombs at a theatre when the film ‘Vishwaroopam’ was released, at the house of Hindu Makkal Katchi leader Arjun Sampath and at a shop in Selvapuram, police said.
The police have registered a case against Nassar and are investigating further.
