Coimbatore; An international conference on identifying seed and crop health innovations that have the potential to create a food-free world was held at the Coimbatore Agricultural University, on behalf of the Seed Centre, the Directorate of Crop Protection Centre and the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute. Speaking at the inaugural function of the two-day conference, Seed Centre Director Umarani said, “By 2050, the world population will reach 9.7 billion. Therefore, to create a food-free world, it is necessary to develop new technologies in the agricultural sector and increase production. At this juncture, an international conference on seeds is very essential.”
The inaugural function was presided over by Geetha Lakshmi, Vice-Chancellor of the university.
At the international conference, more than 400 people from all over the world, including Viswanathan, Director of the Lucknow Sugarcane Research Institute, Srinivasalu Rajendran, scientist at the Uganda International Potato Research Center, Alan Britton, Professor of Chemistry at Cape Breton University, Canada, and Shanthi, Director of the University’s Plant Protection Research Center, participated and presented papers.
