A winter flower exhibition is planned to be held for the first time at the Horticultural Department Park in Ooty, owned by the Karnataka Government. The Chief Ministers of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu are expected to participate in it.
Tourists from not only Tamil Nadu but also other states including Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and abroad visit Ooty, an international tourist destination, in large numbers. More than 30 lakh tourists visit Ooty every year.
The park owned by the Horticultural Department of the Karnataka Government is located in the Fernhill area of Ooty. Spread over an area of about 38 acres, this park has various sections such as a horticultural garden, rose garden, Italian garden, tea garden and maze garden.
In this situation, just as flower exhibitions are held in the Horticultural Department parks of Tamil Nadu, a winter flower exhibition is planned to be held for the first time in Karnataka Park this year as well.
Assistant Director of Horticulture Krishnamurthy said: In this park, 5 lakh flowers of 200 varieties including orchid, cyclomone, renon gula, tuberose, begonia, chrysanthemum, marigold are being prepared. 20 thousand flower pots have been prepared in the greenhouse.
The suspension bridge set up in the park and the flower waterfall located in the central area are attracting tourists a lot. A fee of Rs. 100 is charged per tourist. While parking fees are charged at many places in Ooty, there is no ‘parking’ fee here.
The park has been specially prepared for the winter season. Colorful flowers are blooming in most places. 6 thousand tourists visit the park on weekdays and 12 thousand on weekends.
To further attract tourists, a winter flower exhibition will be held this year in the 3rd week of this month. The Chief Ministers of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu have been invited to attend. They are expected to attend, he said.
