Demolition of encroached buildings, recovery of lands worth Rs. 11 crore

Coimbatore: In Coimbatore, the Corporation demolished and removed some encroached buildings yesterday; It has given a few more days for the other buildings. In total, it has recovered lands worth Rs. 11 crore; Vadavalli VNR Nagar falls under the 36th and 40th wards of the Coimbatore Corporation. In 1981, permission was obtained from the Urban Planning Department for three layouts. One acre and 69 cents were allotted in five places as 10 percent general allocation. These lands belonging to the Corporation were encroached. Joseph, President of the VNR Nagar Residents’ Welfare Association, filed a case in the Madras High Court. The court that heard the case ordered the removal of the encroachments last February. Since the Corporation did not take any action even after that, a contempt of court case was filed.

In this situation, the Corporation’s Urban Planning Department yesterday went to VNR town and removed some encroached buildings. A saloon building, which was located in three places, on a 75-cent ‘reserve site’, covering an area of ​​10 cents, was demolished yesterday. The encroachment of 2 cents of the building was given 10 days. In total, 73 cents of land was reclaimed.
