Collector scores ‘goal’ at Nehru Stadium

Coimbatore: The Coimbatore Collector played with the students who were engaged in football training at the Nehru Stadium and encouraged them. District Collector Pawan Kumar made a surprise inspection at the Nehru Stadium in Coimbatore yesterday morning. He inspected the artificial turf track renovated at a cost of Rs. 6.55 crore and inquired from the officials about the length, width and number of players practicing. He also ordered minor repairs to be made to the seating area for spectators. He inspected the quality of food served to the students staying at the stadium and advised them to provide spinach and eggs twice a week.
He asked the students who were playing football there whether the coach was coming on time and encouraged them by playing football with the students.

Later, he asked the students who had participated in gymnastics, athletics, basketball and handball to collect medals and make Coimbatore proud.

He instructed the sports department officials to provide additional facilities for the stadium through a letter.

He further expressed the hope that the matter would be brought to the attention of higher authorities and appropriate action would be taken. District Sports Officer Bhuvaneswari and Zonal Senior Manager Aruna were present.
