Coimbatore Corporation presents budget for 2025-26! What plans are announced for the city?

The special meeting of the council to present the budget report for 2025-26 in the Coimbatore Corporation began at 12:00 noon today at the Victoria Hall meeting hall in the main office complex of the corporation under the chairmanship of Corporation Mayor Ranganayaki.

The total revenue receipts and capital receipts for the 2025-26 financial year have been estimated at Rs. 4617.33 crore, while the total revenue expenditure and capital expenditure have been estimated at Rs. 4757.16 crore. As a result, the net deficit for this financial year is Rs. 139.83 crore.

Some of the important announcements made are:-

Infrastructure

A multi-storey parking lot will be established at the Gandhipuram Crosscut Road at a cost of Rs. 10 crore at a public fund.

Similarly, a multi-storey car park for 4-wheelers will be established on Rajaveedi at a cost of Rs. 15 crore. Steps will also be taken to operate, maintain and bring into use the existing multi-storey car park on DB Road with public and private participation.

A car park will be constructed on K.G. Theatre Road at a cost of Rs. 9.50 crore. In addition, a car park will be constructed on a 2-acre area on a government vacant land in the Racecourse area at a cost of Rs. 8 crore this financial year.

A sky-walk will be constructed at a cost of Rs. 8 crore to control congestion at the Gandhipuram Nanjappa Road and Crosscut Road junction, one of the main roads of the Coimbatore Corporation.

The land survey work using geospatial technology will be carried out at a cost of Rs. 2 crore to prepare a detailed project report on land survey and land survey for the Coimbatore Metro Rail Project.

Funds will be allocated from Chennai Metro to expand the Sathyamangalam Road section within the limits of the Coimbatore Corporation and land acquisition work will be carried out for a distance of 1.2 km from Textile Bridge to Surya Hospital, approximately 24 meters wide, at a cost of Rs. 154 crore.

Steps will be taken to set up charging stations at 20 locations in the Coimbatore Corporation areas to provide charging for electric vehicles.

Work will be carried out at an estimated cost of Rs. 60 lakh to install additional electric motors and pipes to bring water without interruption in case of fire accidents at the Vellalur garbage dump.

Roads

A proposal will be sent to the Urban Planning Department seeking a financial allocation of Rs. 20 crore for the development of 3 project roads (30 feet wide project road from Aishwariya Nagar to Maruthamalai Road; 60 feet wide project road from Saravanampatti Thudiyalur Main Road to Anna Nagar via Meenakshi Nagar; Thenvadal Project Road connecting Thudiyalur Saravanampatti Main Road – near Don Bosco School) within the areas under the Coimbatore Corporation limits. A Land Plan Structure table has been sent to the District Administration for land acquisition activities and financial allocation is expected from the government. Appropriate measures will be taken once the government receives the funds.

Under the Local Planning Authority (LPA) Fund 25-26, 624 road works covering a length of 101.49 km at an estimated cost of Rs. 40.03 crore and 201 road works covering a length of 26.66 km at an estimated cost of Rs. 10.31 crore will be undertaken in this financial year.

In the second phase, 2061 road works covering a length of 279.99 km at an estimated cost of Rs. 126.83 crore will be undertaken in this financial year with government funding.

In the third phase, 4277 road works covering a length of 572.94 km at an estimated cost of Rs. 250.08 crore will be undertaken in the current financial year with government funding.

Education

Virtual Reality laboratories will be set up in 5 higher secondary schools in Coimbatore Corporation to encourage creativity and develop individual skills. A fund of Rs. 3.5 crore has been allocated for this.

To improve security in corporation schools, surveillance cameras will be installed in 20 corporation schools with more than 500 students. A fund of Rs. 15 lakh has been allocated for this.

For students who have completed 12th standard in corporation higher secondary schools and are seeking admission in technical educational institutions like IITs, NITs and medical education for further education, their first year tuition fees will be paid from the corporation funds, not exceeding Rs. 25,000 per student. In addition, training for entrance exams like you will be provided to students, for which a fund of Rs. 10 lakh has been allocated this financial year.
