Auto drivers have been continuously protesting across Tamil Nadu, demanding a ban on bike taxis. In this situation, more than a hundred auto drivers have sat on the roadside in the Sivananda Colony Powerhouse area, demanding a ban on bike taxis.

Auto drivers have been continuously demanding a ban on bike taxis. Auto drivers, who say that the lives of passengers traveling in them are not guaranteed and there is no accident insurance, are demanding that the government immediately intervene and ban them.

In this situation, the Transport Minister had recently said that it is impossible to ban bike taxis. But despite that, auto drivers have been continuously protesting across Tamil Nadu. Two days ago, they suddenly joined the protest in the Lakshmi Mills area. It is noteworthy that the police arrested them.

So, what is the mistake made by bike taxi drivers?

They ask for the fare for the trip through the bike taxi company’s mobile app and say that it will be an additional Rs. 20. Although some customers agree to this, some drivers declare that the ride is complete while they are on the way. Otherwise, they cancel the trip on the app before the ride starts, ask the driver to start the trip with them, and collect the full fare.

If an accident occurs while traveling with them, the passenger will not receive compensation from the bike taxi company. This is because the customer did not travel through that company.

Similarly, some bike taxi drivers do not come to pick up customers in the vehicle they registered with the company providing the service. The bike taxi company will have checked the licenses of any registered vehicle. Thus, bike taxi companies do not allow one vehicle to be registered and used as a vehicle. But people continue to come in a different vehicle without registering with that company.

Some people engage in rides while talking on their cell phones. Some bike taxi passengers share their experiences that some people are charging double the fare.

Will it be banned?

Regarding this, Tamil Nadu Transport Minister Sivashankar said, “The central government has not clearly issued guidelines regarding the use of 2-wheelers for commercial use/rent. We are waiting to know what the central government and the courts clearly say in this regard. As of now, there is no ban on bike taxis in Tamil Nadu.”
