Coimbatore District Collector Pawan Kumar has announced that all shops, commercial establishments and factories in the district should put up name boards in Tamil by May 15th, failing which a fine will be imposed.
In this regard, he said:-
As per Rule 15 of the Tamil Nadu Shops and Establishments Act 1947 and Rules 1948, name boards of all shops and commercial establishments in Tamil Nadu should be put up in Tamil.
Similarly, all food establishments and factories in Tamil Nadu should put up name boards in Tamil subject to the above rules.
Furthermore, this name board should be set up in Tamil first. Then in English and then in the languages of their choice in the ratio of 5:3:2.
In Coimbatore, a district-level committee has been formed under the leadership of the District Administration to ensure that all shops, institutions, food establishments – all types of factories and private schools and colleges put up nameplates in Tamil.
The members of this committee include the Labour Department, Industrial Safety and Health Directorate, Tamil Development Department, Local Government Department, Traders’ Associations, Food Establishments’ Associations and Industry Federations.
The committee will inspect and ensure that 100 percent of the nameplates are put up in Tamil by May 15th. Companies that do not put up Tamil nameplates within this period will be inspected and issued a notice seeking explanation and a fine will be imposed.
Therefore, all shops, businesses, food establishments, schools, colleges and factories are requested to inform their committee members about this information and provide full cooperation to the district administration to ensure that 100 percent of the nameplates are put up in Tamil and avoid fines.
