The by-election for the vacant Ward 56 in Coimbatore Corporation is going to be held soon. The Tamil Nadu State Election Commission has instructed to prepare a voter list with photo and one polling booth for 1,400 voters. The post of Ward 56 Councilor of Coimbatore Corporation, Krishnamoorthy, has fallen vacant due to the death of that post. Apart from this, 12 local body posts are lying vacant in other parts of the district.
The Tamil Nadu State Election Commission has decided to hold by-elections in May after the end of the assembly session and fill the vacant posts. The preliminary work for the same has been initiated.
The notification issued by the Tamil Nadu State Election Commission states:
Polling stations should be prepared for not more than 1,200 voters in the urban and municipal areas and for not more than 1,400 voters in the 56th ward of the Coimbatore Corporation.
The list for the local body by-elections should be prepared based on the Assembly electoral roll published in January this year. It should be ensured that no voters are left out. The electoral roll and polling station lists should be prepared within the due time. The draft electoral roll should be prepared by April 21.
The list with photograph should be downloaded by April 24; instructions regarding printing and publishing these will be given later.
