The meeting to present the budget report (budget) of Coimbatore Corporation for the financial year 2025-26 will be held on the 28th at 12:00 noon at Victoria Hall. The consultation meeting in this regard was held yesterday; Mayor Ranganayaki presided.
Corporation Commissioner Sivaguru Prabhakaran presided. Only the Zonal leaders, Standing Committee leaders and the ruling party leader were invited to participate in the meeting. The council leaders of other parties were not invited.
Some of the Zonal leaders spoke as follows:
Why are we holding a consultation meeting now after the budget book has already been prepared. Why are the council leaders of other parties not invited to the consultation meeting?
Sanitation, drinking water and street lighting facilities should be provided. These three basic facilities should be given importance. Replace the underground sewer pipes in the areas under the old corporation.

To avoid blockages and overflowing of sewage, raise the ‘manual’ section. Then, provide house connections. Lay concrete roads in narrow lanes; no ‘paver block’ roads. It is not right to take the vegetable market to Vellalur.
The underground sewer project should be implemented immediately. An indoor sports stadium should be built. The financial allocation for the zone should be increased. The old corporation buildings should be renovated.
A park should be created for the differently-abled. Land donated should be acquired and project roads should be built.
Thus, they spoke.
‘Pink park for women’
When asked by the mayor, “We are going to create a ‘pink park’ for the use of women and children only; we are going to build five parks, one for each zone. “We have advised that rain water drainage should be constructed. Funds should be allocated for Anganwadi centers. Middle schools should be upgraded. We have given priority to building project roads. It was suggested that cancer screening should be conducted for those visiting the corporation hospitals; since it would require a lot of money to buy equipment for that, it was suggested that steps be taken to conduct screening at the government hospital one day a month,” he said.
