The recently presented 2025 Tamil Nadu budget allocated Rs. 348 crore for the second phase of the Coimbatore Western Bypass project. The Coimbatore Western Bypass project, which will cover a total distance of 32.42 kilometers, is being implemented in three phases. After the completion of the first phase, the second phase of the project will be carried out from Madhampatti to Kanuvai for a distance of 12.10 kilometers.
The first phase of this four-lane road starts from Madukkarai and extends to Madhampatti for a distance of 11.80 kilometers. The first phase of the work, which began in August 2023, is now about 60% complete. The highways department plans to complete it by August – September 2025. The Tamil Nadu government has allocated funds for the second phase of the project, and the departmental administrative approval will be given and the funds will be released. After that, tenders will be invited and the work will move towards the next phase. 95% of the land acquisition work required for this phase of work has been completed. It is noteworthy that land acquisition work for the third phase of work from Kanuvai to Narasimhanayakkanpalayam (8.52 km) has begun.
