The Power Weavers Association meeting was held yesterday at Somanur in Avinashi, Tiruppur district. The association president Bhupathi presided over the meeting. A large number of people attended the meeting. Various resolutions were passed in the meeting. In it, expenses including electricity charges, building rent, spare parts and labor wages have increased significantly in the last 4 years. The last wage hike was given 12 years ago.

Therefore, a solution to the electricity tariff hike should be found through negotiations. A legal permanent solution should be found for the wage hike. Mill owners should give wage hike to weavers. Since various protests were held to emphasize these demands, 32 petitions were submitted and several rounds of negotiations were held to no avail, it was decided to start an indefinite strike. In addition, various resolutions were passed, including asking power loom owners who run their own pavu nul, national mission, van, auto, and vesti saree varieties to support them.

Based on this, power looms in Coimbatore and Tiruppur districts have gone on an indefinite strike from today. Due to this, the daily production of ghat cloth worth about Rs. 40 crores is in danger of being affected. With about 1.5 lakh power looms in this region being paralyzed, the livelihood of thousands of workers who directly and indirectly depend on this industry is in question. Therefore, the workers have requested the Tamil Nadu government to intervene in this issue immediately.
