Mettupalayam; People are eagerly waiting to see when the ‘Namakku Name’ water supply project located in Sikkadasampalayam panchayat will come into operation. Sikkadasampalayam panchayat is one of the 17 panchayats in Karamadai panchayat union. There are more than 30 small villages in this panchayat. This panchayat is located within the boundaries of Mettupalayam municipality.
Tiruppur Water Supply Project Drinking water is supplied to the people of the panchayat through four drinking water projects namely Sulur, Kuttharipalayam and Karattumedu. Due to the large number of houses and population, the people do not get sufficient drinking water. Water supply is done to some residential areas once in 10 days and to some areas once in five days. Despite being near the Bhavani River, people are suffering from insufficient drinking water. In this situation, former Panchayat President Vimala, when she was the president, launched a new drinking water project at a cost of one crore 40 lakh rupees under the Namakku Name project. To draw water for this project, a round well has been constructed in the Bhavani River on Vellipalayam Road. An electric motor has also been installed in it. All the work was completed in two years. But water supply is still not being provided. The public is eagerly waiting to see when the Namakku Name drinking water project will be implemented.
Waiting for electricity connection
When asked by Sikkadasampalayam Panchayat Secretary Prabhu, “When the project work started, an electricity connection was obtained to operate a 20 HP electric motor. But now, since a 60 HP electric motor is to be operated, money has been deposited at the electricity office for a new electricity connection. Soon, drinking water will be provided to the public through the new drinking water project,” he said.
