The master plan (complete plan) for the Coimbatore inner city area is in its final stages. According to reports, it is planned to be completed within the next 15 days and released by Chief Minister Stalin in April or May.
The master plan for Coimbatore was last updated in 1994. Since then, Coimbatore city has undergone many phases of development.
A study has revealed that 4.5 million people will live in Coimbatore city by 2041. Therefore, a request was made by industry, society & nature enthusiasts and the public to have a new master plan for the city, considering the public infrastructure required at that time, facilities to improve the quality of life of the people, and management plans.
In this situation, after the current government took charge, steps were taken for several months by different government departments in collaboration with the Coimbatore Corporation to prepare a draft master plan.
This was sent to the Tamil Nadu government by the Coimbatore district administration in October 2023. The government approved this and published this draft report on a dedicated website on February 11, 2024. The public was given time until May 15, 2024 to view this report and express their views.
After that, industrialists, construction workers, farmers and many others expressed their objections and suggestions on the report. A total of 3500 suggestions were made. These were reviewed and submitted to the government and steps were taken to finalize the master plan.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Stalin, who attended a private event held in Chennai as a special guest last month, announced that the master plan for Coimbatore and Madurai would be released by March.
All the suggestions made by the people of Coimbatore on this project are being included in the master plan. It is learned that these works are in the final stage. It will be completed very soon, that is, this report will be final within 15 days. The government is taking steps for this.
According to recent information, the government has decided to update the master plan issued in 2005 for the areas under Pollachi Municipality and in 2006 for the areas under Mettupalayam Municipality. The initial work for this has begun. It is reported that facilities such as drinking water facilities, water body management & revitalization, green space, and waste water management for these municipalities will be considered.
