Global Creators (GC), a leading manufacturer and supplier of packaged drinking water in Tamilnadu for close to 2 decades launched their Water Vending Machines (WVM) in Southern Railways. The first set of Water Vending Machines was launched today at Coimbatore Railway Junction by Shri Sachin Kumar, Station Director of Coimbatore Railway Junction under Salem Division. These WVMs are the first set to be launched in the Salem Division of the Southern Railways. The company has totally 2 WVMs in the Coimbatore Railway Junction currently.
This initiative has been facilitated by Southern Railways as part of their commitment to providing clean drinking water to the public. These machines offer the first purified water supply in Salem at an affordable rate of 5 rupees per litre, thereby ensuring accessibility for economically disadvantaged individuals. This initiative aims to deliver quality drinking water to those in need, particularly travellers at the railway junctions.
The unit installed is a state-of-the-art machine completely made in India under the Make in India initiative by the Government of India. The raw water undergoes 7 step process of water treatment (Ref: Diagram) which includes sand and carbon filters, reverse-osmosis (RO), and UV treatment before being offered to the general public. These set of processes are as per WHO prescribed standards to reduce water borne diseases due to certain bacteria’s and viruses.
The drinking water is made available in 300ml, 500ml, 1litre, 2 litres and 5 litres at Rs.1, Rs.3, Rs.5, Rs.8 and Rs.20 respectively. The travelling public has the choice to fill the water in their own containers or can buy the bottled water at a minimal cost. The machine has 4 outlets nozzles which can dispense water simultaneously. All Digital payments are accepted apart from cash. The system also has a coin vending mechanism for vending 1 litre water if the customer inserts an Rs.5 coin in the slot. The system is very user friendly and is manned by a staff 24×7. General public can avail cold drinking water also during the peak summer season to beat the heat.
