Coimbatore; Police are planning to increase the number of CCTV cameras across the city to keep an eye on crime.
In recent times, CCTV cameras have been playing an important role in identifying criminals.

Police also say that the number of crimes taking place in places where cameras are installed has also decreased.

Last October, a few days before Diwali, a gang from Gujarat broke into a locked house in Coimbatore and robbed it. With the help of CCTV cameras installed in the area, the police identified and arrested the criminals. Currently, there are 29,601 cameras in the city. Of these, 3,272 are in Peelamedu area, 1,789 in Saravanampatti, and 6,074 in Singanallur.

These three police stations have a large number of residential areas. Therefore, there are plans to increase the number of cameras in those areas.

Furthermore, the police have been instructed to contact the housing associations in the respective areas and request them to install cameras in their areas.

A police officer said, “There are plans to install cameras at the entrances of residential areas.

Recently, 64 cameras were installed in Saravanampatti. Cameras are to be installed in areas including Thudiyalur, Singanallur, Peelamedu. It will be convenient to monitor crime incidents in the city,” he said.
