Coimbatore; The estimated cost of the project report for the construction of flyovers in Saravanampatti and Singanallur has to be revised according to the current market value. Therefore, the construction of these two flyovers has become impossible at present. To avoid traffic congestion in Coimbatore, the National Highways Department has granted permission to construct flyovers in Saibaba Colony, Singanallur and Saravanampatti.

In Saibaba Colony…

Work has begun in Saibaba Colony. Tenders have been invited five times for the construction of Singanallur; no contractor participated in the last time.

It has been several years since the project estimate was prepared.

It was revealed that the contracting companies are reluctant to participate in the tender as the estimated cost is unaffordable compared to the current price of construction materials.

The estimated amount should be revised according to the current price ratio. Permission should be obtained from the National Highways Department for the additional amount and financial allocation should be obtained. Only after that, a ‘tender’ has been requested and the contractor has to finalize it.
In Saravanampatti…

Similarly, the Chennai Metro Rail Corporation has not issued a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the construction of a flyover in Saravanampatti. This is because the ‘Metro’ train will travel in the middle of Sathi Road, so the flyover will interfere.

The flyovers should be designed in a different ‘design’ according to the metro route. The gas pipe, underground sewer pipe, drinking water pipe and telecommunication wires under the road should be changed. The Metro Rail Corporation has advised the National Highways Department to plan accordingly.

Therefore, it has become necessary to revise the project report for the construction of a flyover in Saravanampatti.

If the metro rail passes through the middle, the ‘design’ will have to be changed to accommodate the construction of flyovers on both sides; the estimate will change. If land acquisition is required, the project estimate will increase even more.

Due to the difficult situation that has arisen where such a procedure has to be followed, the bridge is currently not feasible.

Permission not given for Saravanampatti
National Highways Department officials said, ‘We are preparing an estimate for the Singanallur flyover at the current price rate; a sixth tender will be invited. The ‘Metro’ company has not given permission to build a flyover in Saravanampatti. If the metro rail and flyover work are to be done together, the estimate will increase. The ‘design’ will have to be changed. They are discussing this at the highest level,’ they said.
