Chennai: AIADMK General Secretary Palaniswami, Tamil Nadu BJP President Annamalai, DMDK General Secretary Premalatha and others have condemned the police department for releasing those who sexually assaulted a mentally challenged student. In a statement issued in this regard, he said:

AIADMK General Secretary Palaniswami: The news that a mentally challenged college student from Ayanavaram area of Chennai was subjected to sexual assault by more than 10 people is shocking. In this regard, when the father of the victim filed a complaint, the police department acted with a very negligent attitude, as is the case. Those who did not report the incident were arrested.

Doesn’t the police department even know that if a complaint is received about crimes against women, it should be investigated properly, realizing its seriousness? My condemnation to the DMK government for handling cases against women with a cold-blooded attitude.

Annamalai: The news that a mentally challenged college student was sexually assaulted by a gang of 7 people in the Ayanavaram area of Chennai for the past several months is deeply shocking. The student’s father filed a complaint in this regard at the Ayanavaram police station, but they only gave a warning to the culprits and released them. Who gave the police the authority to release those who have been the subject of complaints about sexual violence? Why did the Chief Minister not inform anything about this incident? The Chief Minister should explain this.

Premalatha: Who gave the police the power to release sexual offenders? This country will not forgive those who sexually assaulted a mentally challenged student, who are lower than animals, and the people of Tamil Nadu will not forgive them either.

TAMAK leader G.K. Vasan: It was the duty of the Tamil Nadu government to immediately arrest the criminals who committed sexual assault on a mentally challenged woman, put them in jail and take steps to ensure that they were severely punished. However, the actions of the police who warned the criminals were not proper. The Tamil Nadu government should take action against the police.

AMMK General Secretary TTV Dinakaran: The fact that a mentally challenged student was sexually assaulted by an unidentified gang for over a year reveals that crimes against women are becoming commonplace in Tamil Nadu. All members of the gang should be arrested and given severe punishment.
