President Murmu conferred Khel Ratna on Kukesh, Manu Bhakar, Harmanpreet Singh and Praveen Kumar!
New Delhi: President Draupadi Murmu conferred the ‘Khel Ratna’ award on Kukesh, Manu Bhakar, Harmanpreet Singh and Praveen Kumar, who have achieved in international sports, at a function held in Delhi today (Jan.,17). The award is given by the Central Government to Indian stars who have achieved in the international sports arena. The list for the year 2024 has been released. The ‘Khel Ratna’ award, the highest award in sports, is given to four stars this time. In the World Chess Championship series held in Singapore, India’s Kukesh defeated China’s Ding Liren by 18 points and China’s Ding Liren by 32 points. Kukesh created a record of becoming the youngest player to win the World Chess Championship title. Besides, he helped India win gold in the Chess Olympiad series. Along with him, Kukesh, Manu Bhager, Harmanpreet Singh, and Praveen Kumar were also selected for the Khel Ratna Award.
Today (Jan.,17), President Draupadi Murmu honored the four with the ‘Khel Ratna’ award at a ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Similarly, 32 people including Jyoti (athletics), Salima, Jarmanpreet Singh, Sukhjeet Singh, Sanjay (hockey), Navdeep Singh, Simran, Hokato, Dharambir, Pranav Surma, Sachin Gilari, Deepti Jeevanji, Preeti Pal (para-athletics), Nitesh Kumar (para-badminton), Annu Rani (javelin), Aman Sherawat (wrestling),
Sajan Prakash (swimming), Abe Singh (squash), Sarabjot Singh, Swapnil Kusale (shooting), Rubina, Mona (para-shooting), Kapil Parmar (para-judo), Rakesh Kumar (para-archery), Vandika (chess), Nitu Kangas, Saweetie (boxing) were awarded the Arjuna Award.
