In a historic and deeply spiritual moment, President Droupadi Murmu visited the Sabarimala Sannidhanam today — observing every traditional ritual with devotion and reverence.
Her pilgrimage began at the sacred Pampa River, where her hands and feet were symbolically washed before a ritual bath, as per age-old customs. She then visited the Pampa Ganapati Mandir, carrying the sacred Irumudi Kettu — the traditional bundle of offerings carried by every Ayyappa devotee.
Accompanied by her Officer on Special Duty and security personnel, the President performed the rituals with utmost devotion. She then began her ascent to the Sannidhanam, traveling in a Devaswom Board vehicle, before climbing the sacred eighteen holy steps at exactly 11:45 a.m.
Usually, Kerala Police assist devotees during this sacred climb, but today, the President was guided personally by her security officer — hand in hand — while maintaining the sanctity of the ritual.
At the top of the eighteen steps, President Murmu was received with a Poorna Kumbha welcome. With eyes closed in prayer, she offered her devotion to Bhagwan Ayyappa, received the Deep Arti, and bowed with folded hands — a moment filled with emotion and spiritual grace.
Following her prayers, she also visited the Malikapuram Mandir nearby.
With this visit, President Droupadi Murmu becomes the first sitting President to visit Sabarimala’s Sannidhanam after V. V. Giri, marking a truly historic moment — five decades later.
