Coimbatore; Around one lakh people submitted applications in the special voter summary correction camp held in Coimbatore for four days and expressed their interest in voting in the upcoming assembly elections. As per the guidelines of the Election Commission, a special voter summary correction camp was held in Coimbatore on the last four days of 16, 17, and 23 and 24. According to the draft voter list in the ten assembly constituencies in Coimbatore, there are a total of 31,49,239 voters in Coimbatore, including 15,43,073 males, 16,05,516 females and 650 third genders.

3,117 polling booths

There are 2,201 polling booths in Coimbatore city and 916 polling booths in rural areas, for a total of 3,117 polling booths. 1,019 polling station assistant officers, led by station officers at each polling station, conducted special camp activities for voters.

At the camp, 18-year-olds, NRIs submitted applications for adding names, changing addresses, identifying differently-abled persons, obtaining duplicate identity cards, and making corrections to existing data, as well as corrections in the name and age of voters.

On January 1, 2025, a large number of people who had completed 18 years of age applied for their names to be included in the voter list as a new one. Those who wanted to correct entries in the voter list and delete names applied through the appropriate forms, through the website voters.eci.gov.in, and through the mobile app Voter Helpline.

Youth in high demand

A total of 92,639 people applied, including 43,166 people using Form-6 to add new names to the voter list, 10,848 people using Form-7 to remove names, 38,625 people using Form-8 to change their new residential address, and 38,625 people who had moved within the same constituency.

About one lakh people applied through the camp held on the last four days of the 16th, 17th, and 23rd and 24th. Out of them, 18-year-olds and those who will turn 18 in January are the majority. The youth had applied to get more places in the voter list in the first phase to cast their votes in the upcoming assembly elections.

Political parties also showed great interest in adding voters’ names and making corrections at an unprecedented level in the voter special correction camp.

Many party executives volunteered to receive applications and give them to voters, fill them out and submit them. The fact that residents’ associations and volunteers also participated in the camp made it clear that awareness had been created among the people.

Not a single form was received
You can find out through the app that all the details including Aadhaar number, bank account number, PAN card number, driving license, etc. have been collected along with the Aadhaar number. Along with that, the voter ID card number will also be known. That is why they are insisting on linking the Aadhaar number with the voter ID card. Form-6B should be used to link the Aadhaar number in the voter list. But not a single voter has used the applications for that. Because Aadhaar is already linked to the names of most voters, many are not interested in it.
