Modern ‘camera radar’ is currently being used in the metro rail survey work being carried out in Coimbatore. Metro officials say that this camera radar will accurately show the situation underground. It has been decided to run the metro rail up to the Valiyampalayam section, a distance of 14.4 km, on the Coimbatore Sathi Road. The Metro has accelerated the survey work before the preliminary construction work for it.

In this regard, a consultation meeting was held yesterday under the chairmanship of the Collector, in which all government department officials including Highways, Revenue, Corporation, Electricity Board and Metro Railway department officials participated. The officials explained how the metro rail route will be laid in Coimbatore, on which roads the route will be laid, what work needs to be done before the construction work begins, and what work is currently being done.

In the first phase, the Chennai Metro Rail Corporation has provided Rs 154 crore for acquiring land for the metro rail project, covering a distance of 1.2 km from the Textile Bridge on Coimbatore-Satti Road to Surya Hospital.

‘Camera radar’ will be used to identify information about water pipes, cables and underground power lines currently buried in the ground, along with video and maps.

Metro officials said, ‘In the first phase, it has been instructed to start work quickly from the Textile Bridge to Surya Hospital. Based on that, a modern camera radar will be used to examine the condition under the ground for a distance of 1.2 km, and pictures and videos will be taken. After that, the work of removing them will be done. Finally, the construction work will begin.’
