The PG & Research Department of English of Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore conducted an International Conference on “Food and Literature: An Epicurean Journey through Books” at the College premises.
Dr. R. Karunambigai, Head of the department of English welcomed the gathering. The Principal and Secretary of the College, Dr.B.L.Shivakumar presided over the function. In his Presidential Address, he spoke that Food is essential for survival and it also depicts culture, tradition and social cause. Animals eat food for their survival but we, humans have food specially because of the taste, culture, tradition and social cause.
Dr.S.Chitra, Assistant Professor & Programme Leader, Department of Arts & Humanities, Sherubtse College, Royal University of Bhutan, Bhutan was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Delivering the Inaugural Address she said, “Food can be used to understand different cultures and traditions. Different cultures have different food and it reveals their customs and beliefs. Literature blends beautifully with food and they bring a flavour to each other” she said.
Dr.S.Vijayalakshmi, Assistant Professor of English delivered the Vote of Thanks.
A total of 293 students, research scholars, teachers and professors from various colleges from different states and countries took part in the conference.
