Coimbatore: With the aim of helping the development of the Indian textile industry, the ‘Bharat Tex’ exhibition, which the Central Government organizes annually in Delhi, should be held in Tamil Nadu or Maharashtra. Only then will everyone in the chain benefit, industry members have said.
With the aim of helping the textile industry, the ‘Bharat Tex’ exhibition is organized annually in Delhi on behalf of the Central Government and the Ministry of Textiles. Industry members have said that the efforts of the Central Government will be more beneficial only if it is held in states with important traditions in this industry.
Jayapal, President of the Federation of Recycled Textile Industries, said: It is very welcome that the Central Government organizes a world-class international textile exhibition called ‘Bharat Tex’ like the ones organized in western countries like China and Turkey with the aim of helping the development of the textile industry. However, it would be better to hold this exhibition in Maharashtra, which is known as the Manchester of India, or Tamil Nadu, which is known as the Manchester of South India.
This exhibition is being held with the aim of benefiting all the industries in the textile chain. But in the current context, there are many problems for small and micro industries in participating in the exhibition held in Delhi. Therefore, instead of holding it for the sake of eye candy, the Central Government should take steps to hold this exhibition in Tamil Nadu or Maharashtra in the coming years. He said this.
Kandavel, Joint Coordinator of the Federation of Tamil Nadu Power Loom Associations, said: For the development and growth of the textile industry, the Central Government and the textile industry have been holding the ‘Bharat Tex’ textile exhibition in Delhi for the last two years.
The first exhibition may have been held in the capital of India to be known. But the choice of New Delhi for the second time has drawn a lot of criticism among the textile industry.
Delhi is a place where there are no manufacturers or manufacturing factories. In terms of the textile industry in India, states like Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh are leading.
Most power loom manufacturers are unable to visit the event in Delhi. The reason is that they have to travel for at least seven days to visit, and they have to spend thousands on train travel, accommodation, and other expenses. Similarly, the government has fixed the hall rental so that only large companies can participate in the exhibition.
In particular, there are 25 lakh power looms in India. Maharashtra is at the top with eight lakh power looms, and Tamil Nadu is at the second place with more than six lakh power looms.
Tamil Nadu is the leading state in the country in the textile industry with a capacity of 1.92 crore spindles and a capacity of 8 lakh rotors. Weaving-related automatic looms are mostly operated in the above-mentioned states.
Therefore, in the coming times, the Central Government should take steps to hold the Bharat Tex exhibition in Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu, followed by textile-related cities like Mumbai and Ahmedabad, and to fix concessional rent for power loom owners, he said.
