Today (Jan., 17), the last day to file nominations, DMK candidate Chandrakumar, and Naam Tamilar Katchi candidate Seethalakshmi filed their nominations.
The main opposition parties in Tamil Nadu, the AIADMK and BJP, have withdrawn from the contest and are boycotting the election. There is a direct competition between Chandrakumar, who is contesting in the DMK alliance, and Seetha Lakshmi of the Naam Tamilar Party.
Since Chandrakumar is the ruling party candidate, the field situation is that he will win. Apart from that, DMK and alliance party leaders are also going to gather votes in support of Chandrakumar. Meanwhile, senior leaders of the party have said that Seeman, the party’s chief coordinator, will enter the field and campaign intensively in support of Naam Tamilar Party candidate Seetha Lakshmi.
