Coimbatore; Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner Sivaguru Prabhakaran has held talks with Kerala Irrigation Department officials, demanding regular water supply from Siruvani, and has given a letter of assurance to pay the dues for dam maintenance. The Kerala State Irrigation Department is responsible for maintaining the Siruvani Dam, which is the most important source of drinking water for Coimbatore. The corporation usually pays the maintenance fee through the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board. In this way, Rs 13 crore has been outstanding.
In this situation, the Kerala Irrigation Department has slightly closed the valve in the water intake well that takes water to Coimbatore. 22 crore liters of water was less per day. According to the contract, 100 crore liters of water can be taken per day. Since the water reserve in the dam is low, 7 crore liters were being taken. Moreover, without any prior notice, the valve was closed and only 5 crore liters were supplied, which led to a shortage of drinking water in the corporation area.

When Tamil Nadu government officials investigated, it was revealed that there was an arrears of maintenance money. Two crore rupees were immediately released. Corporation Commissioner Sivaguru Prabhakaran spoke to the Kerala Irrigation Department officials regarding the water supply and the payment of maintenance money.

The Kerala officials requested a letter guaranteeing the payment of the arrears. Based on that, the Commissioner has given a letter on behalf of the corporation, promising to pay the arrears. Now, there is an expectation that 7 crore liters of water will be provided.
