Christian Lent Begins: Ash Wednesday Observed in Churches

The Christian Lent began yesterday. On the first day, Ash Wednesday was observed in churches yesterday.

Christians observe Lent every year to commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. They fast for 40 days and celebrate the day of Jesus Christ’s resurrection as the festival of Easter.

On the first day, yesterday, special morning and evening masses were held in various churches in the city, including St. Michael the Archangel Church, St. Anthony’s Church, Pulyakulam, Christ the King Church, Coimbatore Child Jesus Church, Pothanur Puniya Susaiyappar Church, Carmel Nagar Our Lady of Carmel Church, Karumathampatti Holy Rosary Basilica. Devotees participating in the Thirupali applied ashes on their foreheads and prayed.

Lent begins with Ash Wednesday, Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, and Good Friday, and continues until Easter, April 20.

Every Friday during this time, the Stations of the Cross are celebrated in churches to commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
