Various companies are providing this service while the use of two-wheelers for commercial purposes is prohibited according to the Motor Vehicle Rules. In this situation, a petition was submitted to the Transport Department Commissioner on behalf of the Tamil Nadu Road Transport Workers’ Union regarding the violation of the rules. Accordingly, the Transport Department Commissioner has ordered to take action against two-wheelers used for commercial purposes under the Motor Vehicle Act. All zonal officers and regional transport officers have been ordered in this regard. Furthermore, field officers have been ordered to conduct special vehicle audits to identify and take action against those who violate the rules. It has also been ordered to send a report every day at 7 pm zone-wise. This has caused problems in the continued operation of bike taxis in cities including Chennai.
