1,400 CCTV cameras to be installed in Coimbatore under ‘Smart City’ project! Coimbatore; As surveillance cameras play an important role in preventing crime, it is planned to install 1,400 more surveillance cameras in the city under the Smart City project.

The police are taking steps to strengthen security by installing surveillance cameras in public places across the state. The public is also installing surveillance cameras in their homes and shops.

Thousands of police officers are engaged in security work in the areas under the jurisdiction of the Coimbatore City Police. Surveillance cameras have been installed in various areas to monitor and regulate traffic, prevent crime, and identify criminals.

In Coimbatore City, the footage recorded by the installed cameras is monitored 24 hours a day at the city police control room on behalf of the police.

The cameras in key places have facilities including ‘night vision’ and 360-degree rotation. In this situation, under the Smart City project, 1,400 more cameras are to be installed in Coimbatore city.
City Police Commissioner Saravanasunder said:

There are more than 500 surveillance cameras under police control in the city. Of these, 207 cameras are connected to the control room. To connect all the cameras to the control room, ‘optical fiber cables’ have to be laid.

Apart from this, there are 8,500 cameras at 1,600 places in the city. These 1,600 places have also been ‘geotagged’. Under the Smart City project, 1,400 more surveillance cameras are to be installed.

Administrative approval has been received for this. Due to the installation of more surveillance cameras, crime incidents have decreased. The problems in easily identifying criminals have reduced.
