SITARC, an independent non-profit testing and research centre established in 1987 is a premier institution providing advanced testing, calibration, research, and development services across all industry sectors. Jointly promoted by the Southern India Engineering Manufacturers Association (SIEMA) and the Coimbatore District Small Industries Association (CODISSIA), with support from the Coimbatore Industrial Infrastructure Association (COINDIA), SITARC has established itself as a leader in quality and precision services.

SITARC holds several key accreditations, including NABL accreditation and approvals from BIS and MNRE, underscoring its commitment to high standards in testing and calibration services across mechanical, electrical, metallurgical, chemical, and biological domains.

On September 8, 2023, in Coimbatore, WRI India and FaMe Tamil Nadu launched the Tamil Nadu MSME EV Skilling Program, aiming to strengthen Tamil Nadu’s position as a premier destination for electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing by building the capacity of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the sector

Following this initiative, SITARC, in partnership with CODISSIA and SIEMA, has proposed a 29.97 crore project to support MSMEs in transitioning to EV manufacturing Of this budget, 90% of the funding is provided by the Government of Tamil Nadu (GoTN), with SITARC contributing the remaining 10%.

Coimbatore, known for its thriving motor and pump industry, is emerging as a hub for EV manufacturing In response, SITARC is establishing the SITARC EV Foundation, a state-of-the-art Common Facility Centre focused on testing electric vehicle motors (Hub and Mid Drive) and controllers for two- and three-wheelers. Located at SITARC’s Kurichi premises, this centre will provide essential training to help local industries shift from traditional induction motors to EV motors, supporting the development, testing and certification of new EV technologies

Alongside testing services, SITARC EV Foundation will offer specialized training programs for academic institutions and industry sectors, aiming to enhance technical skills, operational efficiency, and competitiveness among aspiring engineers and blue- collar workers. To support these new functions, the existing Kurichi unit is renovated to accommodate both testing and training activities.

Foundation Stone of above Centre was laid by Thiru. V. Senthil Balaji, Hon’ble Minister for Electricity, Prohibition and Excise, Govt. of Tamil Nadu on 28th December 2024 at 6.30 PM and this function was presided by Thiru. Ganapathi P. Rajkumar, MP, Coimbatore.
