Kirloskar Brothers Limited (KBL), a leading Indian multinational engineering company and a pioneer in fluid management solutions, inaugurated a new factory building at its Kaniyur Manufacturing Facility in Tamil Nadu this week. The inauguration coincides with KBL completing 100 years since the manufacturing and installation of India’s first centrifugal pump in January 1926.
The new factory in Kaniyur located in Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu, building is designed to enhance productivity, improve operational efficiency and support advanced manufacturing processes. It will enable KBL to meet growing domestic and global demand while maintaining uncompromising quality standards.
Commenting on the inauguration, Rama Kirloskar, Joint Managing Director, Kirloskar Brothers Limited, said: “This new factory building at Kaniyur reflects our confidence in India’s manufacturing strength and our readiness for the future. As we celebrate 100 years since installing India’s first centrifugal pump, this facility enhances our ability to deliver innovative, high-quality solutions while remaining deeply committed to customer value, people empowerment, and nation-building.”
The solar power installation at the facility marks a significant milestone in KBL’s sustainability journey. It is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 122.5 tCO₂e and cut Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 89%. With renewable sources now meeting nearly 80% of the facility’s electricity requirements, the initiative supports energy efficiency, long-term cost sustainability, and responsible growth, while delivering annual savings of approximately INR 21.64 lakh.
Recently KBL secured a contract to supply 14,000 pumps for petroleum applications, competing directly against Global giants. KBL’s new submersible turbine pumps for retail petroleum applications after securing critical certifications like ATEX. This allows them to compete in a market previously dominated by international monopolies.
