The Stanes Anglo-Indian Higher Secondary School celebrated its 163rd Founder’s Day with a day of thanksgiving and reflection that highlighted the school’s proud heritage and enduring commitment to excellence in education.
The event was graced by Victor Anandkumar, Dean of International Relations, Pondicherry University, who served as the Chief Guest. In his address, Prof. Anandkumar commended the school’s exceptional legacy of 163 years, saying, “While most institutions fade within decades, Stanes stands tall — 163 not out — continuing to stay true to its founding vision.”
He reflected on the faith-based roots of the school and quoted Psalm 127:1 — “Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labour in vain.” He encouraged students to embody humility and excellence, true to the school motto “Excelsa Sequar” (Aim for the Highest), and urged them to make a difference through integrity and gratitude.
The proceedings were held under the leadership of Mercy Oommen, Chairperson, Stanes Schools, along with Philip R.J. Fowler, Correspondent; Dr. James J. Gnanadoss, Honorary Treasurer; and Dr. Sucheeta Ramachandran, Governing Board Member.
The day began with a Solemn Founder’s Day Service led by Rev. Dr. Sajeev Sugu, Member, Governing Board, followed by the Founder’s Day Award Ceremony. P.A. John Stephen, Principal, welcomed the gathering and introduced the Chief Guest, after which Philip R.J. Fowler presented a memento to Prof. Anandkumar.
Teachers completing 25 years of service were felicitated for their dedication, while meritorious students received awards for their achievements in academics and co-curricular activities.
The formal ceremony concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Dr. V. Divakaran, Vice Principal, Senior School, expressing gratitude to all dignitaries, staff, alumni, and students.
Later in the day, the Past Students’ Association held its Annual General Meeting, followed by a Reunion Lunch, allowing alumni to reconnect and celebrate their shared legacy.
