Sadhguru has spoken on various occasions about the greatness of Thevara songs. With the aim of ensuring that all people enjoy Thevara songs that express devotion, Sadhguru introduced the Thevara music sheet sung by Sanskrit students with traditional Panna during the Mahashivratri festival held in 2020.
Speaking about Thevara, Sadhguru said, “Tamil culture is a culture that has grown fundamentally on devotion. Devotion means boundless devotion. Whoever engages in some activity with complete devotion, whoever does his activity with complete devotion, no matter what the activity is, will always be in ecstasy.
In this Tamil culture, many devotees lived in this ecstasy. The culture created by many great saints like Thirugnanasambandar, Sundarar, Thirunavukkarasar in ecstasy has been incorporated into this Tamil land. Thevaram emerged in Tamil land as an expression of this devotion. Everyone should listen to this,” he said.
In our Tamil Nadu, for many centuries, Thevaram Thirumuraigals have been sung by Shiva devotees and reciters in every temple.
Continuing that tradition, Thevaram songs are being taught to students from childhood in the Sanskriti School, a part of the Sadhguru Gurukul.
It is noteworthy that these students sing Thevaram songs in front of thousands of people on important festival days such as Mahashivaratri, Navratri, Guru Pournami, and Dhyanalinga Inauguration Day held at Isha.
