24-hour drinking water scheme in Coimbatore: Himachal Pradesh Mayor’s team inspects

A 20-member team, including the Mayor, Commissioner and 16 councilors of Himachal Pradesh and Solan Corporation, has come on a two-day visit to learn about the schemes being implemented in Coimbatore Corporation.

In the Coimbatore Corporation area, 50,000 connections have been provided under the 24-hour drinking water scheme. This has not been implemented in any other state or city. Representatives of local bodies from different states are visiting Coimbatore to implement this scheme in other cities.

Similarly, the Tamil Nadu government has instructed officials from other local bodies in Tamil Nadu to also inform them. Training is being provided in Coimbatore on behalf of the Tamil Nadu Urban Finance and Infrastructure Development Corporation. Officers managing other corporations, municipalities, town panchayats and the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board participated.
They inspected the Billur-3 project being implemented in Coimbatore Corporation, the water intake point, the treatment plant, the tunnel, the water supply system in Cheran Nagar and the 24-hour water supply project.
A 20-member team from Solan Corporation, Himachal Pradesh, including Mayor Usha Sharma, Commissioner Ekta Habta and 16 councilors, arrived in Coimbatore yesterday.
Administrative Engineer Elangovan, Assistant Administrative Engineer Ezhil explained about water supply, Assistant Urban Welfare Officer Bhupathi explained about garbage management, and Assistant Administrative Engineer Kanagaraj explained about the underground sewerage project.
Then, Assistant Engineer Sathyamoorthy explained about 24-hour water supply in AKS Nagar.
